Google’s new feature that can tell customers how crowded a bar, restaurant, or a store is in real time might affect your business more than you think. By using aggregated as well as anonymous location history data, Google’s new tool might ‘push’ customers away when a certain business is too crowded or help a business attract more customers.

Depending on the type of customers your business attract, this new feature might help you expand your business if more people are looking for crowded bars and restaurants at certain times during the day and night, or it might stop potential customers get foot in your door.

“Do you ever find yourself trying to avoid long lines or wondering when is the best time to go grocery shopping, pick up coffee or hit the gym (hint: avoid Monday after work)? You’re in luck!

Now, you can avoid the wait and see the busiest times of the week at millions of places and businesses around the world directly from Google Search. For example, just search for "Blue Bottle Williamsburg", tap on the title and see how busy it gets throughout the day. Enjoy your extra time!” Google recently announced.

By showing you how much a store or a popular place is crowded hour by hour, might help a lot of customers who have longed for a feature that would one day help them skip long lines and save them precious time.

“The feature is built with the same anonymized Android location data Google uses to estimate how heavy traffic is on a given road — and like the traffic data, it's just an estimate. The system can't tell how many people are in line at a given store, just how many are in the store's walls at a given time. The result is one more way Google is able to leverage Android adoption into new features for Search, which in turn provides more integrated features for Android users. It's a trick that the company's search competitors will have a very hard time copying,” according to The Verge.

In addition to its new feature in real-time, Google will also show how long people stay in a certain place on average to give you a clearer view. All the information is currently available on Google Search and Google Maps, so if your business is listed in Search the feature must show up.
