Porsche revealed its new Mission E electric concept sports car at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt on Monday, September 14. Porsche’s new concept, which according to Tech Insider has a range of around 400 km with just a 15 minute charge, is about to challenge Tesla’s Model S. “With Concept Study Mission E we take our next step towards the future. With an all-electric sports car that defines our vision of e-mobility,” Porsche posted on its official Instagram account.
The automaker said that besides having over 600 horsepower and 500 km of electric range in total, the Concept Study Mission E will be powered by two motors. “The Mission E concept shows what Porsche is capable of in terms of electric mobility. […] What you see in the Mission E is a reflection of what you could expect from Porsche in the next generation or two of cars,” a Porsche spokesperson said for Business Insider.
Its underbody battery is based on the latest lithium-ion technology, and the car is expected to include the inductive charging technology that allows customers to charge their car over a special charging base plate. They can also easily charge their vehicle at a charging station as well as at home by using a cable.
According to Porsche’s official site for Mission E, “menu navigation is controlled by eye tracking – in line with our operating philosophy of having instant access to essential functions. The system detects the considered instrument by camera. […] The display follows the sitting position and posture of the driver. As they move their position to higher or lower, or lean to the side, the 3D representation of the instruments responds by moving with them.”
The cameras also will be able to replace the exterior mirrors by capturing and reflecting everything that goes around the car in the lower corners of the windshield so that the driver can have a better view of the surroundings. Furthermore, to make the driver’s life even easier, Porsche’s new concept sports car features the OLED technology on its driver’s display, and some parts of the car’s interior will be controlled by holograms.
“With Concept Study Mission E we take our next step towards the future. With an all-electric sports car that defines our vision of e-mobility. The time is ripe for this study. It shows that, in addition to our plug-in hybrids, all-electric drive systems can truly meet our standards of intelligent performance. For us, this declaration is distilled into one clear philosophy: Porsche E-Performance. […] Concept Study Mission E sets the stage for tomorrow. With its design and its technology, it provides answers to the question of the sports car of the future,” according to high-performance sports cars, SUVs and sedans’ manufacturer, Porsche, which intends to start the production of Concept Mission E within the next five years.
